Spring 2008
& Fall 2008
New Student Registration Programs
FRESHMEN
At SUNY Brockport, you will find that, although we separate the
process of Registration (course selection) from the other more
fun and exciting activities you'll experience in our freshman
Orientation program, we do work very closely in order to give
you the best schedule, service and overall experience possible
as you make this transition from high school to college. You can
find information regarding Brockport's orientation program on
the Orientation Web site at www.brockport.edu/orientation
.
Registration for entering freshmen at SUNY Brockport is handled
through the mail by a team of dedicated, well-trained and experienced
faculty advisors. The process is quite simple. At least half of
your course schedule is prescribed for you based upon your high
school performance (including SAT and/or ACT scores), as well
as the program of study you may have chosen at Brockport. By completing
the Registration Request Form included in the mailing you'll
receive, you will help us select the final two or three courses
that will complete your course schedule for that important first
semester. You will receive your course schedule together with
a form that, if you choose, will enable you to reserve your textbooks
in advance. You
can then plan to arrive at Brockport registered for
classes and ready to devote your full attention to getting acquainted
with your new classmates and participating fully in our Welcome
Weekend.
The Freshman Mail-in Registration packet is scheduled to be sent
to you once you pay your advance tuition deposit (starting in
the beginning of December for spring 2008 and in early May for fall 2008.)
Watch for this important mailing!
TRANSFERS & READMITS
SUNY Brockport offers Student Orientation,
Advisement and Registration (SOAR) programs designed
especially for new transfer students and for students accepted
for readmission who are returning to Brockport after an absence
of one or more semesters. The purpose of the SOAR program is to
give you the best introduction we can to the policies, programs,
facilities and services available to assist you in your transition
to Brockport, and most important, to help you select your courses
for your first semester.
During the SOAR program, you'll:
- receive comprehensive personalized academic advisement
from faculty members in your field of interest.
- register for your first semester classes.
- receive information on topics such as financial aid,
intercollegiate athletics, clubs and organizations, career services,
student employment, campus safety, and support services.
- have an opportunity for members of your family to talk
with faculty and staff.
- get to know and feel comfortable with the SUNY Brockport
campus.
For SPRING 2008:
New spring 2008 transfers who have made early decisions to attend
SUNY Brockport are encouraged to take advantage of our special
opportunity to meet with a faculty advisor and register for spring
2008 courses on Saturday, December 8, 2007. This Saturday
Student Orientation, Advisement and Registration (SOAR) program
was chosen to accommodate most of our spring 2008 new students
who may still be attending classes at their transfer colleges
or taking final exams during the week.
The next opportunity to register will be at the Open Registration
program on Friday, January 25, 2008, before classes begin.
For FALL 2008:
The first SOAR program for fall 2008 new transfers is offered
on Saturday, May 10, 2008. This early program is specially
designed for those transfers who have committed to SUNY Brockport
early and are eager to register for fall 2008 courses. It also
provides an early registration opportunity for those students
who plan to be away for the summer or are working full-time and
not available to attend a summer SOAR program.
The next two programs are offered during the summer.
SOAR Dates are:
| Friday, June 27, 2008 |
|
| Friday, August 1, 2008 |
SOAR FEE: There is a $40 SOAR fee associated with the program, which
will be added to your first semester's bill.
Transfers are strongly encouraged to attend one of the SOAR programs.
For a few of you, other commitments may make a trip to SUNY Brockport
impossible. We will hold a new student registration/orientation
program on the Friday before fall 2008 classes begin. Delaying
until then means a few lines and more limited course availability,
but it's workable, and we will give you all of the assistance
we can manage. This final registration program is designed primarily
to meet the needs of late admits.
