The College at Brockport's Living Learning Communities

The College at Brockport currently hosts four Living Learning Communities. Each is designed to bring together freshmen with similar academic and co-curricular interests in a unique living-learning environment.

Application Process

Spaces are limited. Priority is given to students who demonstrate a commitment to academic success, intellectual curiosity, civic engagement and lifelong learning.

Each community is facilitated by the Residential Life staff, faculty from a variety of disciplines, the Student Learning Center, and the Office of Student Retention.

2. How do I apply?

Start with the online Housing Application (available beginning March 27). You will be then be asked to submit an application.

3. Can I apply for more than one Living Learning Community?

Absolutely.

4. When do I find out if I have been accepted to the Living Learning Community of my choice?

In early June you will find out if you have been accepted. You will get your actual room assignment and roommate information in late July.

5. What do you consider when you are deciding who is accepted into a Living Learning Community?

Priority is given to students who demonstrate a commitment to academic success, intellectual curiosity, civic engagement, and lifelong learning.

6. Are the extra events and field trips required?

Students in the Living Learning Communities are expected to participate in a certain number of programs and sign an agreement to that effect before the fall semester.

7. Must I maintain a particular GPA to stay in my community?

You are expected to maintain a GPA of 2.0, which is a C average.

8. Can I stay in the Living Learning Community for my sophomore year?

Students who wish to live together in their sophomore year can make arrangements to do so.

9. What if I wish to live with someone who does not want to be a part of the Living Learning Community?

Typically students who do not wish to participate are not permitted to live in the community.

10. Can I participate in other activities that are not associated with the Living Learning Community (sports, theater, clubs and organizations)?

Absolutely!

11. Do I take the Academic Planning Seminar with other students in the Living Learning Community?

No. You are assigned to a particular Academic Planning Seminar based on your major, program or area of interest.

12. If I am in a special admit program (Educational Opportunity Program, Transition or Exceptional Talent) can I still be in a Living Learning Community?

Yes.
