The School and Community Health Education Program: Major for Health Educators
Practica in School and Community Health Education
HLP 495: Practicum in School Health Education (12 Cr. Spring)Prerequisites: HLP 485, 486, 491, 492 and 493, minimum 2.5 GPA for all courses completed at SUNY Brockport; and passing score on the Liberal Arts and Science Test (LAST). Click here to access information regarding preparing for the LAST.
The Practicum in School Health Education provides the students with the opportunity to use all of their knowledge and skills on a full-time basis in an elementary and secondary school site under the supervision of a teacher and a health educator respectively. This experience is also an opportunity for students to become proficient in delivering content related to the implementation of the three New York State Learning Standards for Health, Physical Education, and Family and Consumer Sciences.

If you are interested in student teaching in New York City through the SUNY Urban Teacher Education Center (SUTEC), you will need to complete an additional application which can be located on the SUTEC website. HLP 496: Practicum in Community Health Education (3-12 Cr. Spring)
Prerequisites: HLP 485, 486, 491, 492 and 493, minimum 2.5 GPA for all courses completed at SUNY Brockport.
The Practicum in Community Health Education provides students with the opportunity to function as full-time health educators in community, hospital or work-site settings under the supervision of a health education professional. This experience allows students to develop, implement, and evaluate health education programs as appropriate for the setting.
