This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit. This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.
As a family, the academic advisement series provides support to students with respect to academic planning, program, and course selection. Incumbents aid students in interpreting academic rules and regulations, such as prerequisites or other course requirements.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree. Significant
experience in academic advisement and experience in management and supervision
is required.

Professional Title Specifications (Alpha)
The Director of Academic
Advisement directs the academic advising function at a campus with a large or
complex academic advisement program. The Director supervises a group of Academic
Advisors and Academic Advisement Assistants, and Senior Academic Advisors in the
development and implementation of a professional staff advisement program; does
related work as required. Is a key member of all university committees involved
with undergraduate education; works with Deans and other academic staff in defining
rules, regulations and policies pertaining to undergraduate education; recruites
and trains Senior Advisors and is responsible for administratve overview of the
total advisemente service; is directly accountable for all internal operations
of the professional advisement staff.
