The National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) polls hundreds of four-year colleges and universities nationwide each year. To date, more than 1,300 institutions of higher learning have participated in the poll since 2000. Student responses provide a snapshot of how undergraduates spend their time while in school and what they gain from attending their particular college or university. The survey ultimately identifies best practices in undergraduate education. The College uses this information to generate changes in policies and practices in a focused way to improve the student experience.
Coupled with the responses from NSSE, The College at Brockport also uses results from the Student Opinion Survey (SOS) given to a sampling of students throughout the SUNY system at all class levels. The resulting anonymous ranking allows SUNY campuses to compare themselves to similar institutions within the system.
Participating in both of these samplings enables the College to gauge its progress in these areas of desired outcomes – and closely monitor those factors that influence student success both inside and outside of the classroom. This information is thus very useful to prospective students, their parents, college counselors, academic advisors, institutional research officers, and researchers interested in learning how students engage at their college or university.
As noted below, The College closely tracks how our students perceive their educational experience and the academic rigor encountered here.
