Student Housing

Residence Halls

 Residence halls at The College at Brockport are more than places where students sleep. They are vibrant, active communities where significant learning takes place. They are dedicated to student success through a commitment to collaboration, community, civility, diversity and responsible citizenship. They are comfortable and affordable, promote the safety of their residents, and emphasize academics. They value meaningful involvement and encourage pride and respect. Our community-building program focuses on the total development of a student within the residential setting. We consider students to be adults and expect them to obey all laws and take personal responsibility for their conduct.

Each residence hall community is staffed by a professional Resident Director (RD) and a staff of upper class Resident Assistants (RAs) who reside on each floor. RDs and RAs are excellent sources of information - they know the campus, its resources, and how to help you resolve problems. The residential staff is committed to service excellence. They treat students as individuals, help them make choices, support students in developing personal responsibility and concern for others, and help them to develop a plan for their academic success.

Campus Safety

The College and Community

Our students enjoy living on campus and in the village of Brockport, with its historic Victorian architecture, quaint shops, restaurants, a movie theater and other conveniences. Malls, professional sporting events, concerts, festivals and museums are nearby. Adding to the village's sense of history is the Erie Canal, which runs alongside the campus through the village. It provides opportunity for hiking, biking, boating and cross-country skiing.  With a total of approximately 8,500 students attending The College at Brockport and becoming part of the greater Brockport community, safety and security have always been a key component of the College.

The College at Brockport provides 24 hour safety and security to the college and local community. This includes our 464 acre campus and our historic village.   Our staff provide continuous service to maintain a safe environment in which members of the community can pursue their various activities and which the college can fulfill its mission.

The primary mission is to protect and assist citizens of the college community and to safeguard its property and resources, to enforce the rules and regulations of the college as well as federal, state, and local law, and to treat all persons equally with respect, regardless to race, gender, religion, or sexual orientation.

The College's safety and security measures are designed to address every area of campus life. A safe college environment also depends on the awareness and cooperation of individual members of the community.

University Police

Campus safety and security are coordinated by the University Police, which has a force of 17 sworn police officers with full arrest powers. As an armed police department, patrol members respond to all emergencies.

State University of New York police officers must meet the highest standards in New York State for law enforcement officers. The officers have passed a basic training program administered by the State University at the New York State Police Academy in Albany, NY, or a local regional police academy, and undergo continuous training to upgrade their skills. Officers have been trained in emergency medical procedures and first aid. They conduct foot, bike and vehicular patrols on the campus and residence hall areas 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

The objective of the University Police Department is to provide a safe environment for teaching, research and social endeavors and to protect the lives and property of the students, employees and visitors of The College at Brockport.

You can view our campus crime statistics as well as many of our crime preventions tips and safety resources on the University Police Website.

  1. The SUNY NY-Alert mass notification system at http://www.brockport.edu/nyalert/;
  2. The College’s Web site at http://www.brockport.edu;
  3. WBSU 89.1 FM, The Point;
  4. Campus e-mail service; and
  5. Campus broadcast message via telephone voice mail.

Campus Services

It is important to remember that safety does not have to be just the security of buildings on campus or the physical safety of our students, staff and citizens.  It is equally important to provide other campus services that help advocate a healthy lifestyle and concentrate on the well–being of our students.  This can include counseling services, health services and dining services.  All of these are key components that can help students stay focused on their academics and as well as provide services that can embrace our students in areas where they might need assistance.

Counseling Center

The Counseling Center promotes the personal development and psychological well-being of all students and fosters a College environment which is conducive to growth.
