School & Transfer Counselor ResourcesStudent ProfilesThe College at Brockport offers a high quality education at an affordable cost. Regionally, Brockport enjoys a growing academic reputation as a college on the move. "The Templeton Guide" recently recognized our campus for leadership in the area of student character development. Known as the "Rising Star " in the SUNY system, SUNY Brockport realizes that it's reputation rests on the incoming freshmen class and the academic accomplishments in their high school careers. Here is a brief look at the incoming class of 2007: Freshmen Profile
What do students need to apply? When a student applies as a freshman, his/her application and supplemental material are reviewed by a committee. In addition to the student's grade point average (GPA) and standardized test score, the class rank, course load and extra-curricular activities will be taken into consideration. We look at the "whole picture." Students may apply using the SUNY application or apply online at: https://www.suny.edu/student/oas/welcome.do . Applicants should have completed a strong college preparatory program including a minimum of 18 academic units in English, math, science, social sciences, foreign languages, and other academic subjects (a Regents program is recommended). In addition to a challenging course load, standardized test scores are required of all freshman applicants. We recommend students take the SAT twice and the ACT at least once. We will take the higher of the scores into consideration. For a schedule of testing dates click here. In addition to GPA and standardized test scores, the review committee looks at the student's class rank. The average accepted freshman is in the top 25% of his/her class. If your school district does not provide class rankings and the student qualifies for a scholarship, we will contact you and discuss where the student may fall within the class. We currently do not have a supplemental application. However, we highly encourage students to submit a personal statement/biography and letters of recommendation (usually no more than three). The new SAT At this time, SUNY College at Brockport, like many other colleges, will continue to place most of its standardized test emphasis on the Critical Reading (Verbal) and Mathmatical Reasoning (Math) sections of the SAT. These sections will continue to play an important role during the admission and scholarship consideration process. On the new SAT, these sections are known as Critical Reading (Verbal) and Mathematical Reasoning (Math). Early research and data suggests that the mean scores have a high correlation to the mean Verbal and Math scores on the old SAT. SUNY Brockport supports the new Writing section of the SAT and recognizes the importance of writing skills at both the collegiate and professional levels. These scores will provide additional information during the admissions review process. If a student has performed well on the Essay portion of the SAT, we recommend students make note of that in their personal statement. Once substantial data are available for the writing section of the new SAT, SUNY Brockport will place increasing emphasis on the writing and overall SAT results. |

Transfer students are considered for admission to programs at The College at Brockport based on their level of achievement in course work at other colleges and universities. As with freshmen, transfer admission to the College is competitive. Although we will consider a student who has achieved a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 and who has demonstrated a commitment through prior course work to the major the student wishes to pursue, the average GPA of incoming transfers is 3.1.
Transfer applicants must send official transcripts from every college/university attended. This is necessary regardless of the number of credits earned, even if the information appears on another institution's transcript. Failure to report all previously attended colleges on the SUNY application will cause a delay in the application process.
What do you recommend for students who may have been denied as freshmen?
Should a student not meet our freshman admissions criteria, the review committee will recommend the student earn a minimum 24 transferrable credits before applying again. The student's application will be reviewed along with the college/university transcript however, high school GPA and standardized tests will no longer be taken into consideration. Feel free to review our transfer admissions Web page at: http://www.brockport.edu/admissions/transfers.html. There you will find information valuable to those high school seniors planning on attending a two-year school before entering SUNY Brockport.
