    Tips for Incoming Freshmen
(or, how to survive your freshmen year and have a great time doing it!)

    1. College is not high school. You're about to enter a very different world, so it's normal to feel a little nervous at first. Not to worry — we'll give you all the support you need to make the transition. You'll be assigned a peer mentor who will answer your questions and be there for you. And our First Year Experience Program will help you and your fellow freshmen get the lay of the land.
    2. Separation anxiety is normal. For your parents, we mean. Don't worry if at first they call you 17 times a day. (DO worry if they make a shrine out of your old bedroom, because that's just creepy. ) We are here to help your parents make the transition too. They can start with our Parent Resources and Information.
    3. Google is not your only research tool. Learn to use the library. We have a great one — the Drake Memorial Library has more than 470,000 books, 100,000 periodicals, and 25,000 on line journals on every subject in the universe.
    4. Enter College. Exit your comfort zone. Try new things. Meet new people. Dare yourself to do something you've never done before. At The College of Brockport, this is a requirement!
    5. Have a life outside of studying. Join the judo club. Deejay at WBSU, or become a reporter for The Stylus. Take in a movie or a dance performance. There are so many fun and fascinating things to do here, you'll never want to sleep.
    6. Sleep is highly overrated. See # 5.
    7. Ramen noodles are out. Campus dining is in. We rank #1 for the best food in the SUNY system. Is delicious healthy food a good reason to choose a college? We think so.
