    Second Baccalaureate Degree

The following majors are closed for the spring 2010 semester:
-Adapted Physical Education & Teacher Education -Athletic Training -Exercise Physiology -Kinesiology

Graduates from The College at Brockport and from other accredited institutions are eligible to earn a second baccalaureate degree in a program leading to a different academic major. All program requirements must be met and a significant amount of course work beyond your first degree requirements must be completed to earn a second baccalaureate degree.

    Degree Requirements

    1. Students pursuing a second undergraduate degree must complete a minimum of 30 semester hours in addition to the hours required for the first degree. The College Residency Policy requires that a minimum of 30 credits be completed at the College. The residency requirement includes completion of at least 15 credits needed for a major. If you are pursuing a minor or certification program, you must complete at least half of those credits required for the minor/certification program at The College at Brockport.
    2. Students must fulfill all prerequisites, corequisites and major requirements for the second degree program, and complete General Education, liberal arts, and upper-division requirements in effect at the date of matriculation in the second degree program. Transfer credit may be used to fulfill these requirements.
    3. The minimum GPA for consideration for admission to the college is 2.5.

    Application Procedures

All materials, including the application and all transcripts, are recommended to be on file in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions by December 1 if applying for the spring semester and by July 1 if applying for the fall semester.

Students who have completed their first bachelor's degree or were matriculated at The College at Brockport must apply for readmission using the Second Degree Readmit Application and pay the $40 application fee to the College. Students who completed their first bachelor's degree at another college or university must use the SUNY undergraduate application and pay the $40 application fee to SUNY. All second degree students are classified as matriculated undergraduates and are billed accordingly.

Second degree applicants must send official transcripts from every college/university attended. This is necessary regardless of the number of credits earned, even if the information appears on another institution's transcript. An official college transcript verifying completion of the baccalaureate degree must be on file in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions before an application will be reviewed.

Students may be eligible for financial aid. The Financial Aid Office should be consulted for further details at (585) 395-2501, or through e-mail at finaid@brockport.edu.

You can check the status of your application by clicking here.

    Registration
Admitted second degree students register at the Student Orientation, Advisement and Registration (SOAR) program or open registration. They will be classified as seniors.

    Programs of Study
The Office of Undergraduate Admissions admits applicants to the College and not to a major. A separate application or pre-requisite courses may be required for admission to a major. Check the department's Web page to determine if your intended major has requirements for admission.

    Childhood and Adolescence Education Certification
Students interested in Childhood and Adolescence Education Certification (excluding Health Science and Physical Education) must submit the Education Application in addition to the application for admission to the College. The Education application deadline is February 15 for fall enrollment and September 15 for spring enrollment. Applicants need to be accepted to the College by the Education Application deadline.
Please note: The certification program is not a major and must be completed in addition to your second degree major. Please visit the Department of Education and Human Development's Web page for a list of appropriate academic majors.

If you intend on pursing Adolescence Education Certification (Grades 5 – 12), please review the additional certification options.

    Nursing

All students pursuing the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) should contact the Department of Nursing at (585) 395-2355 prior to applying to the College. Admission to the major requires a separate application to the department. Nursing applications must be submitted by January 20 of the year you are seeking admission to the Department of Nursing.
Please note: There are pre-requisite courses for admission to the major.

    Social Work
Admission to the social work major requires submission of the Social Work Application to the Department of Social Work by April 15th in addition to the application for admission to the College.
Please note: There are pre-requisite courses for admission to the major. Admission to the social work major is for fall only. Students interested in entering the College in spring will be considered social work intents.

    Concentrations
Several majors at The College at Brockport offer concentrations within the major. We encourage you to visit the department's Web page and notify the Office of Undergraduate Admissions of your intended concentration.
