Transfer Requirements
Admission to The College at Brockport as a transfer student is competitive. Although a minimum grade point average of 2.50 is required for consideration, it does not guarantee admission. Most admitted students have a GPA of 3.0 or better. Applicants are reviewed based on their demonstrated ability to be successful in college level coursework. For students who have less than 24 transferable college credits, we also consider high school transcripts and SAT/ACT scores.
Applying
Brockport uses the SUNY application, which is available in New York state two-year college's admissions and transfer offices, online or a paper application may be printed from the Application Service Center's website.
Transfer applicants must send official transcripts from every college/university attended. This is necessary regardless of the number of credits earned, even if the information appears on another institution's transcript. Failure to report all previously attended colleges on the SUNY application will cause a delay in the application process. Please send official transcripts to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Students with less than 24 transferable college credits are also required to submit official high school transcripts and SAT/ACT scores for consideration.
If you will be transferring to The College at Brockport with more than 54 transferable college credits, you will be required to indicate an academic major on your application. Teacher certification is available at Brockport, and must be completed in addition to a declared major. Please visit the Education Department's web site for a complete list of appropriate academic majors for education certification.
You can check the status of your application by clicking here.
Previous Applicants
Students who were previously admitted or had no decision on their application are allowed to update their application for up to one academic year after applying using the Request to Update Application form. For example, if you have been accepted for the fall semester, you may update your application to the following spring or fall semester. After that semester, you will need to re-apply using the SUNY application.
Please note that 1) a prior acceptance does not guarantee acceptance for a future semester and 2) we may require updated transcripts and/or additional information. If this is the case, we will send you a letter requesting the needed credentials.
EOP
Transfer students applying for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) must have been EOP/HEOP, SEEK, or College Discovery Program at their previous or current college to be considered for admission to the EOP program at Brockport. For applicants previously in one of these programs looking to be considered EOP at Brockport, you must check the box to question 45 and check 'yes' to question 51 on the SUNY application.
When will you hear from us?
Acceptance letters are sent on a rolling basis, about two weeks after your file is complete. The College at Brockport makes admissions decisions until the class has become full. Transfer applicants should be aware that some academic programs have a separate application and deadline. Please visit the department's web site for more information. The earlier you apply, the better. We recommend applying by March 1 for fall entry and December 1 for spring entry.
Transferring credit
Students can transfer up to 64 credits from accredited two-year colleges and up to 90 credits from accredited four-year colleges. Students entering with an associate's degree are guaranteed to enter with junior year standing. However in some cases it may take more than four additional semesters to complete all degree and/or certification requirements.
We encourage students transferring from a SUNY college to complete as many of the SUNY General Education requirements as they can prior to entering The College at Brockport. Your academic advisor at your current college can advise you on which classes fulfill the SUNY General Education requirement.
The Office of Academic Advisement has developed a Transfer Academic Planning Guide, which can assist transfer students and help identify course equivalencies between the classes at their current college and classes at Brockport.
Scholarships
The College at Brockport offers several academic scholarships for transfer students. Please make note of application deadline dates for the individual scholarships you may be qualified for.
