What is your most memorable experience from your first year at Brockport?
My most memorable experience was my first summer here at Brockport. I was here for four weeks for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). We had a lot of fun activities that helped us to be engaged and develop our skills. Also, throughout these four weeks I met a lot of people that I’m still friends with now.
Why did you choose Brockport?
When I came here for the bus trip last year, I was really pleased with what I saw. I love how Brockport is not too big and not too small either. It was the perfect campus size for me. I wanted to experience a different type of community and I thought the environment was beautiful. Besides from this, I was also drawn on how the people are very welcoming.
What is your favorite thing about Brockport?
I love how everyone is really helpful. I feel the sense of community and camaraderie out here. As a freshman, I had all the access and aid for transitioning into college. Brockport actually tries their best to guide students towards progress and success.
What is your favorite class at Brockport:?
My favorite class would be PSH 110: Principles of Psychology with Prof. Amanda Lipko. In this class you learn explanations of why and how things and people are. We watched videos that showed the connection of the concepts in real life, which I think actually helped to grasp the lecture better.
What advice would you give to incoming freshmen?
Balancing work and play could be challenging. Being away from home gives you full independence to do whatever you want. There could be a lot of distraction around and it is up to you whether you go with it or not. This doesn’t mean you can’t have fun though. You just have to set your priorities straight and know what you’re doing.
What advice would you give to incoming transfer students?
Always keep a smile on your face. Don’t be afraid to make friends because Brockport is a friendly community.
What is one thing students should never leave at home when packing for college?
Your winter coat!
