Introductory Questions
The Relevance of the ADP

We first asked faculty and staff about their perceptions of the relevance of civic engagement to higher education. Broad agreement on this point would seem to be a pre-requisite for involvement in the American Democracy Project. The results are encouraging. 93.0% of the undergraduate faculty and 82.6% of the staff answered that they “agree” or “strongly agree” that a college education should strive to change student values, goals and attitudes regarding civic engagement. An even higher proportion of respondents, 97.7% and 97.8% of faculty and staff, respectively, agreed that a college education can shape civic engagement-related values, goals and attitudes.
