What you are doing now: I am an Assistant Federal Community Defender with Federal Defender Services of Eastern Tennessee, Inc. and represent death row inmates in their federal appeals.

Major: Political Science

Most memorable Brockport moment: I credit Brockport for providing me the opportunities that formed my most memorable moments which are in connection with doing work-study for Literacy Volunteers of America tutoring migrant workers and working for Senator Alphonse D’Amato in the Washington D.C. semester program.

Most interesting life experience: Being a mother.

Last book read: Making Your Case: The Art of Persuading Judges by Antonin Scalia

CD most likely to find in your stereo: Once Again by John Legend

Favorite vacation spot: St. George Island, Florida

Family: Husband, Michael and daughter, Mikaela age 9

What you want to be doing next year: I am very happy and content with my life and hope to continue doing what I have been.

What you want to be doing in 20 years: I hope to be retired from the law and working part time as a day care provider and spending my remaining time gardening and traveling.

Message to the students of today: There is no one recipe for living a good life but I can share my approach.  I have found happiness by taking time daily to be appreciative of nature, the people around me and all the things I have in my life.  My life has been enriched by being kind and helpful to others, especially those people often ignored by society in general.   I have found satisfaction in my career by working hard and constantly learning new skills and approaches to lawyering.  I have avoided regrets by exercising great patience, being considerate of other people and trying hard to forgive.  I believe that the earlier in life that you can identify qualities and actions that will bring you peace and happiness the more you will be able to make a positive contribution to society and live a fulfilling life.
