Erin Covey '00
What you are doing now: I am a reporter for KFBK news in Sacramento, CA. I cover all types of news events: politics, breaking news, features on people and places, and pretty much everything in between!
Major(s): Communication, Broadcast Journalism
Favorite class at Brockport: Radio Production
Favorite professor at Brockport: Warren “Koz” Kozireski
Most memorable Brockport moment: Just day-to-day memories from working at WBSU The Point - we would crowd into our advisor Koz’s office and talk about everything. I learned so many things that have helped in my career. We formed lifetime friendships and contacts.
Most interesting life experience: Driving across the country (from New York to California) with my father to get to my current job. From the cornfields of Nebraska, to the canyons of Wyoming, to the forests of Lake Tahoe, California…every day was a great new adventure filled with laughs.
Most famous person you have met: I get to meet a lot of people as a reporter: Vice President Dick Cheney, Senator Hillary Clinton, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver, Clint Eastwood, Billie Jean King, Michael Moore, Sallie Ride. My proudest and most humbling moments, however, are with the so-called “ordinary” citizens who do extraordinary things.
Last book read: Emotional Intelligence by Daniel Goleman
CD most likely to find in your stereo: Anything by R.E.M.
Favorite Movie: Love Actually
Favorite vacation spot: Santa Cruz, CA.
Family: I'm not married and do not have children - just two phenomenal parents: Neal and Toni Covey.
What you want to be doing next year: Enrolled to get a PhD.
What you want to be doing in 20 years: Teaching at a college or helping others in some other way.
Message to the students of today: Get as much real-life experience as possible and take advantage of the many extra curricular activities that Brockport offers. Ask a lot of your professors, they have so much textbook and real-world knowledge to share.
