Ryan Nobles

Ryan Nobles '98

Ryan Nobles is an Anchor/Reporter at WWBT - Television in Richmond, VA.  Currently he is the Anchor of NBC12 “First at Four” and FOX Richmond’s “News at 10”.  As a reporter Ryan covers politics and local government and writes a political blog at www.decisionvirginia.com as well.

In addition to working at television stations in Utica, Rochester and Albany, Ryan also served as the Director of the Oneida County Youth Bureau and the Director of Communications and Research for NY State Senator Joseph A. Griffo (also a Brockport alumnus).

Ryan is a 1998 graduate of The College of Brockport and has a Masters in Public Administration from the Rockefeller College at SUNY Albany.

He and his wife Karey live in Chesterfield County, just outside of Richmond.

What you are doing now: I am a Television News Anchor/Reporter at the NBC and FOX affiliates in Richmond, VA.

Major: Communications

Favorite class at Brockport: Advanced Television Production - SUNY Cable News with Ginny Bacheler

Favorite professor at Brockport: Warren “Koz” Kozireski

Most memorable Brockport moment: Winning the Brockport Student Government election for President with my good friend Mike Holl by only two votes.

Most interesting life experience: Covering the 2008 Presidential election. Virginia was a battleground state and both campaigns were here often.

Most famous person you have met: I interviewed both Barack Obama and John McCain during the campaign.

Last book read: Team of Rivals by Doris Kearns Goodwin

CD most likely to find in your stereo: “Shuffle setting” on the IPod

Favorite movie: Hoosiers

Favorite vacation spot: Italy

Family: My wife Karey and I have been married for almost 5 years.

What you want to be doing next year: Reporting/Anchoring news in Richmond as well as covering the new Governor and a heated 2010 election cycle.

What you want to be doing in 20 years: I hope to be adjusted to the changing media landscape and contributing as a reporter in some fashion at the national level.

Message to the students of today: No matter what industry or profession that you choose, find a way to diversify your skill set so that you can do a number of different things. Expose yourself to all the many options Brockport has to offer. I often find that I draw from the wide range of experiences I had as a Brockport student. Don’t be afraid to take part in an activity that interests you, even if it has nothing to do with your college major. You never know what opportunities might come from the experience.
