SUNY Brockport: Expect the Extraordinary!
Alumni, Friends & Donors

Want a Career, not just a job……

Ok, you had to get a job after you graduated. The school loans were due and you had to start making some money. But, now several years have gone by and you realize you are not where you thought you would be. You have a job, not a career. What do you do next?

The first step is to take stock of the experience that you have acquired. Are there skills, and knowledge you acquired in this experience that you liked and were good at? Are there ways that you can leverage this experience into the field you would like to go into?

Identify a career target and set-up a job search that you do after work and on weekends. Network with family, friends, co-workers and former classmates and let them know what you are interested in doing. Before you know it, you will be in a career, not just a job.

If you need help moving from a job into a career, call, Phyllis Griswold, Career Counselor at 585-395-8759 or e-mail her at pgriswol@brockport.edu.
