Herbert Bailey
The brilliant career of Dr. Herbert Bailey is being recognized with a new scholarship, started by Dr. Bailey, that will benefit students in physics, biology, mathematics and chemistry. Prior to coming to Brockport in 1950, Dr. Bailey had been a communications and deck officer in the Pacific in World War II and taught in secondary schools. He began teaching at the College as a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Science, as it was called then. He established the Department of Physics and was chairman from 1966 to 1978. He retired from the College the following year. In 1999, Dr. Bailey established a Charitable Remainder Annuity Trust that named the College as one of the beneficiaries. Just two years ago, he established the Dr. and Mrs. Herbert S. & Inez W. Bailey Scholarship to benefit students from his area of expertise. Last fall, he returned to campus to speak at the Benefactors and Scholars Brunch. We thank Dr. Bailey for all of his support and welcome him into the Robert E. O’Brien Society.
