Ranger Challenge is the varsity sport of ROTC. It consists of eight mentally and physically demanding events: the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) consisting of push-ups, sit-ups, and a two-mile run - assembly and disassembly of an M16 assault rifle, a test of marksmanship skills with the M16A2 rifle, a grenade assault course, an orienteering course, an obstacle course, and a written land navigation test. Ranger Challenge is NOT for the weak minded or faint at heart. Training lasts for about nine weeks with little time for rest. Monday through Saturday as early as 0530, Cadets begin their training. Many try out, but few make the team. Only the top twelve Cadets make the cut and compete in the coveted RANGER CHALLENGE.
