April 2007 |
| Greetings from Art! |
It's an exciting time in the Department of Art and I'm very pleased, as the new Chair ,to update all of you on our plans.
In the last six years we have hired six new faculty members: Sara DiDonato, Kitty Hubbard, Tim Massey, Alisia Chase, Jim Morris and our most recent addition Chris Carson, who will join us in the fall of 2007. We profile them in this e-newsletter. Since my arrival in September of 2006, I have committed my energy to undergraduate recruitment and creating vital connections in the Rochester community. In the next year we look to enhance our program by adding a digital component to our offerings, add Departmental Honors and increase community internship opportunities for our students. Our current students are energetic and participate actively in exhibiting their work around the area in venues such as the Roco Gallery, High Falls Center, the University of Rochester Harnett Gallery and the Burchfield-Penny Art Center in Buffalo. We always welcome news from you, and we hope you'll stay in touch. Sincerely, ![]() Phyllis Kloda Chair, Department of Art |

| Clay Olympics |
| |
In October 2006, five ceramic students and associate professor Lori Mills participated in the Clay Olympics at the Genesee Pottery in Rochester. The students: Eunyoung Leem, Terianne Gogg, Adam Klimek, Meg Murphy, Molly Nelson and Lori competed in events such as team throwing on the potter's wheel, throwing the tallest vase, throwing the most bowls in 10 minutes, blind folded wheel throwing, making the largest thrown bowl and more! They even walked away with the prize for the best slip decorated set of altered bowls. The pots made at this event were donated to the Empty Bowls Auction to support Sanctuary House, a homeless shelter for women and children.
