Department of Art

Students in the Department of Art come to SUNY Brockport with extremely varied backgrounds in the visual arts and art history. While some students arrive with considerable experience, others have just discovered art and are eager to study it in depth. The Department of Art at SUNY Brockport offers a curriculum that integrates the formal, technical, conceptual, and historical aspects of the visual arts. It provides a range of courses that are designed to provide students with information, understanding, experience, appropriate skills, and knowledge encompassing two-dimensional and three-dimensional media.

At SUNY Brockport, students may earn a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts), BA (Bachelor of Art) or a BS (Bachelor of Science) in Studio Art. In addition, SUNY Brockport offers an Arts for Children major in which studio art can be one of the areas of emphasis. The degree programs offered by the Department of Art are designed to respond to a wide range of needs. SUNY Brockport graduates seeking careers in the visual arts have pursued graduate degrees at major institutions across the country. Department of Art alumni can be found engaged as teachers, gallery directors, studio directors, commercial photographers and working artists.
