The School of Arts and Performance provides exciting pre-professional and professional education/training programs through the Departments of Art, Communication, Dance, Physical Education and Sport, and Theatre; and its interdisciplinary programs in arts for children and visual studies. Our students are challenged "to think" and "to do", so that theory comes alive in an array of experiences such as radio and television production; sport clubs, intramurals, and intercollegiate athletics; public communication and debate; written publications; dance, music and theatre performances; visual art exhibits; student teaching and public outreach.

With a thorough grounding in the individual disciplines and through SUNY Brockport's General Education core curriculum, students are challenged not only to develop their talents, but to articulate their ideas orally and in print; to utilize technology as a tool for research, communication and creativity; and to work collaboratively as well as independently - skills demanded by employers in the 21st Century.

Our School's faculty and professional staff excel at teachers, active researchers and creative artists. Collectively they have accumulated honors such as Broadway's Tony Award, SUNY's prestigious Distinguished Professor and and Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Teaching, Fulbright Scholar Exchanges, and major national grants. These gifted faculty members mentor as well as teach by working alongside students in a collaborative environment of discovery and achievement in our outstanding art studios, theaters, dance facilities, gyms, broadcasting studios and computer labs.

The School of Arts and Performance offers internships and apprenticeships that build useful bridges between college studies and the "real world." The School encourages students to sharpen skills and build confidence through our affiliations with Visual Studies Workshop, Geva Theatre, Garth Fagan Dance, Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, local broadcasting venues, various public school systems throughout Monroe Country, and numerous not-for-profit organizations. As students graduate, they are ready to create their future - whether aspiring to enter a specific career as an artist, coach, dancer, teacher, journalist, actor, media professional, or theatre specialist; or preparing for graduate school.

You will find a welcoming community and a challenging yet comfortable place to grow in the School of Arts and Performance. We invite you to visit and see what students and faculty at SUNY Brockport achieve together. And we invite you to join us.
