| Diane McGhee, Program Director | I welcome you to the inaugural edition of the Arts for Children Interdisciplinary Program e-newsletter. For alumni who may be separated from SUNY Brockport through time or distance, please know that integrated and interdisciplinary arts education remains the hallmark of our unique program. New research continues to document the importance of arts education in the lives of children and particularly in the training of new teachers for the classroom. |

One of UNIQUE's premiere programs is Visual Integration of Technology, Arts, and Language (V.I.T.A.L.) which has created a partnership with the George Eastman House, Rochester Public Schools #42 and #2 and Leary Elementary School in Rush-Henrietta. |

The Rochester Broadway Theatre League and SUNY Brockport Arts for Children Program have joined forces to provide a roaring good time for students in Rochester area schools. In association with RBTLs Broadway touring production of The Lion King, the Leagues Introduction to Theatre Middle School Program introduces sixth graders to master classes centered on themes from the play. This spring, student interns Christy Fisher (theatre) and Caitlin Philpott (dance) accompanied RBTLs education coordinator, Robert Sagan, to teach in area schools. Intern lessons focused on African drums, dance and how students can use improvisation to become a character in a play. |
