Todd Allen Hits a Grand Slam in Baseball Split

 Todd Allen hit two home runs including a grand slam for Brockport(credit: Michael Pratt, MLPhoto) Senior Todd Allen (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) hit a two-run double and added a grand slam for six runs batted in to lead The College at Brockport Baseball team to an 11-4 win over SUNY Plattsburgh in the first game of a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) doubleheader Saturday at Clark V. Whited Sports Complex in Brockport. The Golden Eagles gave up an 8-6 lead in the ninth inning of game two as Plattsburgh rallied for six runs in the ninth for a 12-8 victory.
Brockport (14-16 overall, 6-4 SUNYAC) allowed three runs in the top of the seventh inning as Plattsburgh (18-9, 4-2) tied the game at 4-4. In the bottom of the inning, the first three batters all reached base with two singles and a hit by pitch before Allen came to the plate and delivered a towering home run over the right field fence for an 8-4 Brockport lead. The Golden Eagles tacked on three more runs in the inning for a commanding 11-4 lead.
In game two, both teams scored three runs in the first inning with Allen connecting on his second homer of the day with a three-run blast to straight-away center. The Golden Eagles took a 5-3 lead with two more runs in the second inning as Allen grounded out for an RBI and Max Zimmerman (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) added an RBI single.
After Brockport took a 7-3 lead with two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Plattsburgh cut the lead to 7-6 with a three-run inning in the fifth. The Golden Eagles made it an 8-6 lead with a run in the sixth before Plattsburgh rallied for six runs in the top of the ninth for the victory.
Allen finished the day 4-for-8 with eight runs batted in, two doubles and two home runs. He was also intentionally walked twice. Jamie Rose (Hornell, NY/Hornell), Zimmerman, Kris Gentzke (Clarence, NY/Clarence) and Jason Michaels (Geneva, NY/Geneva) chipped in three hits each and Rose had four runs batted in.
