The Blue Devils scored a 9-4 victory in the opener.
The Brockport (18-18 overall, 7-5 SUNYAC) clinched the third place spot in the final SUNYAC standings and a spot in the SUNYAC tournament that begins Friday in Cortland.
In the opener, the teams traded runs early and Fredonia (23-7, 8-4) held a 2-1 lead heading into the bottom of the third inning. Brockport scored twice in the bottom of the inning when Mike Meola (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) walked to open the inning and came home on a Jason Michaels (Geneva, NY/Geneva) triple. Michaels trotted home on a sacrifice fly by Todd Allen (Oriskany, NY/Oriskany) to give Brockport a 3-2 lead.
Fredonia scored a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth for a 5-3 lead but opened up the game in the ninth inning with four runs and Brockport scored once in the bottom of the inning for the final score. Kris Gentzke (Clarence, NY/Clarence) finished 4-for-5 with a home run to lead the Brockport offense.
In game two, Fredonia jumped out to a 2-0 lead after scoring twice in the top of the first inning but Brockport battled back with single runs in the second and third innings to knot the game at 2-2 and took a 3-2 lead with a Michaels home run to right field in the fourth inning.
Fredonia tied it in the sixth but Brockport regained the lead in the bottom of the inning when Tom McCormick (Utica, NY/Utica Notre Dame) doubled and came home on a throwing error by the third baseman.
In the seventh inning, Fredonia took advantage of a tiring Gentzke on the mound and tagged relief pitcher James Williamson (Mexico, NY/Mexico) for three hits and ended up with four runs in the inning for a 7-4 advantage. The teams traded runs in the bottom of the seventh and top of the eighth, but in the bottom of the eighth Brockport took the lead for good.
After retiring the first batter of the inning, Fredonia pitching allowed a walk and singles by Michaels and Meola to load the bases. Allen worked the count for a walk to push home one run. After a strikeout for the second out of the inning, Rose laced a bases-clearing double to right centerfield to give the Golden Eagles the 9-8 lead.
Rose, Joe Zaccardo (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) and Meola had three hits each including a home run over the leftfield fence for Zaccardo. Michaels and McCormick had two hits each for the Golden Eagles.
