The College at Brockport Baseball team dropped an 11-6 decision to SUNY Cortland in its first game Saturday and the second game of the day for the Golden Eagles was suspended in the bottom of the eighth inning with Brockport leading 8-3 over SUNY Plattsburgh. The suspended game will be completed at 10:30 am Sunday on Wallace Field in Cortland and the winner will advance to face SUNY Cortland for the SUNYAC championship Sunday at Noon. The winner of the completed game will have to defeat Cortland twice Sunday in order to claim the SUNYAC title.

Against Cortland, Jason Michaels (Geneva, NY/Geneva) finished 3-for-4 with a run scored and two runs batted in to lead the Golden Eagles (20-20), who took a 6-5 lead with four runs in the top of the sixth inning. In the sixth, Brockport rallied with four runs, highlighted by a bases-loaded double off the bat of Kris Gentzke (Clarence, NY/Clarence) which scored two runners.

Cortland (28-12) took an early 5-0 lead with three runs in the first and two more in the second. Brockport responded in the fourth with a pair of runs when Michaels connected on a two-out, two-run single up the middle to plate Joe LaDuca (North Tonawanda, NY/North Tonawanda) and Jamie Rose (Hornell, NY/Hornell) to put the Golden Eagles on the board.

After Brockport took the 6-5 lead in the top of the sixth, Cortland regained the lead in the bottom of the inning with a two-run home run and tacked on four more runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the final margin of victory.

The loss was the first for Brockport in the double-elimination tournament and the Golden Eagles faced off against SUNY Plattsburgh in the consolation round with the winner to face Cortland in the championship game (or games) on Sunday.

Against Plattsburgh, Brockport scored once in the second inning and then added two runs each in the third and fourth innings for a 5-0 lead. Both teams scored in the sixth and Brockport took an 8-1 lead with a Rose two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning.

In the top of the eighth, Plattsburgh scored twice as Eric Schwind (Hilton, NY/Hilton) connected on a two-run single for the Cardinals.

At the end of the half inning, the game was suspended due to darkness.

So far in the game, Michaels has a pair of hits with a run scored and a run batted in. Max Zimmerman (East Amherst, NY/Williamsville North) and Tom McCormick (Utica, NY/Utica Notre Dame) have two hits and two RBIs each for the Golden Eagles.
