Virtual Tour of The College at Brockport Athletic Facilities: Stop 2
Special Olympics Stadium
Special Olympics Stadium, the largest NCAA Division III on-campus football stadium in the country.
"In September of 1998, the home of all Brockport football and track and field events, Special Olympics Stadium, built for the International Special Olympics in 1979, was severely damaged in a wind storm. The home-side bleachers and track suffered severe damage, and the press box was destroyed. But, before the home opener for football, repairs were made, and the Golden Eagles had a successful home season with large crowds in attendance. The football team has gone to four NCAA playoffs, from 2000 to 2003.
In the spring of 2004, The College at Brockport track and field team began competition at its new home. The rehabilitation of the track is complete, and it was a very extensive project. It includes a new rubberized surface, the installation of a curb, the relocation and installation of a new steeplechase pit, new long jump and triple jump pits and runways, and a new pole vault area.
