The preseason poll, voted on by the head coaches of the member schools, was released by the conference office Thursday.
The Golden Eagles, in their second season in the NJAC, finished fourth in the conference last year with a 6-3 record and was 7-4 overall including a 70-68 victory over Hartwick College in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northwest Bowl game.
Rowan University is predicted to win the conference title and finished with five first-place votes. SUNY Cortland was close behind in second with four first-place votes, followed by Montclair State, who will be Brockport’s opponent in the Homecoming Weekend game on September 26.
Kean University is picked to finish fourth and is the dark horse selection by the coaches to win the conference title. Brockport is fifth in the poll followed by The College of New Jersey, William Paterson, Western Connecticut, Buffalo State and SUNY Morrisville in the 10-team conference.
Brockport opens the season September 5 at William Paterson and, after an off week, plays Frostburg (MD) State on September 19 in the home opener as its only non-conference game of the season. The Golden Eagles host Montclair on Homecoming Weekend, September 26, before heading on the road for contests against Rowan and The College of New Jersey. Three of the next four games are home contests starting with Kean University on October 17, a road game at Western Connecticut State October 24, and then home games against New York State opponents SUNY Morrisville (October 31) and the final home game of the regular season against SUNY Cortland (November 7). The regular-season finale is at Buffalo State on November 14 in the annual I-90 Trophy game.
