Senior quarterback Jake Graci (Farnham, NY/Lake Shore) broke school records for total yards in a game, yards passing in a game, passing attempts in a game and was on the throwing end of the longest pass in school history, but it was not enough as Montclair State drove down the field in the final minute of the game and score the go-ahead touchdown with 10 seconds remaining to post a 41-39 victory over The College at Brockport Saturday in a New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) game on Bob Boozer Field at Special Olympics Stadium in Brockport.

Brockport (2-1 overall, 1-1 NJAC) took a 39-35 lead with 52 seconds left in the fourth quarter as Graci capped an 11-play drive with a two-yard scramble into the front corner of the end zone.

Montclair (2-1, 1-1) took the ensuing kickoff and drove down the field with two pass completions – one for 19 yards and the other for 24 yards – to move inside the Brockport 15-yard line. Two straight pass attempts fell incomplete, including one that was nearly intercepted by defensive back Derek DeCandia (Beacon, NY/Beacon) and the other that was swatted down by Cody Geffers (York, NY/York). On third down, Montclair quarterback Tom Fischer found Dan Keegan in the back of the end zone for the score and the lead with 10 seconds left to play.

After a long kickoff return by Andrew McCormick (Peru, NY/Peru), Graci’s final pass toward the goal line fell incomplete to end the game.

Graci finished the game 31-for-58 for 442 yards and three touchdowns but also threw four interceptions. The 442 yards through the air is a school record, breaking Zack Luke’s 399-yard effort last year against Cortland. The 58 pass attempts are the most in a game since 1989 when Jim Higgins threw the ball 49 times against Western Connecticut. The 442 yards through the air combined with his 18 yards rushing gave Graci another school record for most total yards in a game, breaking Luke’s mark of 442 yards against Cortland in 2008.

The final school record broken Saturday was for the longest pass in school history. On Brockport’s first drive of the third quarter, the Golden Eagles started at their own eight-yard line. After a two-yard gain on an Aaron Zurn (Sidney, NY/Sidney) run and an incomplete pass, Brockport was whistled for an illegal procedure penalty forcing a third-down situation from the five-yard line. Graci threw a slant pass over the middle to Hector Rosas (Angola, NY/Lake Shore) who broke free from the defense and raced 95 yards to the other end of the field. The old record for longest pass was set back in 1979 when Scott Zahn connected with Roy Voliton for a 93-yard scoring pass against Cortland.

Matt Newman (Unadilla, NY/Unatego) and Felipe Diaz (Syracuse, NY/Onondaga) each finished with eight catches and Zurn led the team with 54 yards rushing and added 65 receiving yards and scored three touchdowns.

Nathan Bull (Brockport, NY/Brockport) led the Golden Eagles defense with 17 tackles, including 10 solo stops, and also picked off a pass.
