Gymnastics Vaults to Season-Opening Victory over Ithaca

Junior Lauren Gildemeyer (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) took top honors in the all-around as well as the vault while freshman Kaitlin Dewey (Saratoga, NY/Saratoga Springs) won the balance beam competition to lead The College at Brockport Gymnastics team to a season-opening victory over Ithaca College Saturday afternoon in Ithaca. The Golden Eagles posted a 183.300-182.850 victory over the Bombers.

Gildemeyer scored a 9.575 on the vault and won the all-around with a score of 37.125. Dewey won the balance beam with a 9.225 in her first competition in nearly two years after suffering an injury as a senior in high school and missing her first year at Brockport with another injury. Dewey finished with a 36.625 score in the all-around competition with a 9.225 on the bars, a 9.425 on the floor and an 8.750 on the vault.

Gildemeyer was second on the floor with a 9.575 and scored a 9.000 on the bars along with an 8.975 on the balance beam.

Stacy Johnson (Mechanicsville, MD/St. Mary’s) finished second overall on the bars with a 9.40 and Christina Baggetta (Latham, NY/Shaker) scored a 9.30 to tie for fourth in the event.
