Gymnastics Wins Home Opener over Springfield and Ursinus
Lauren Gildemeyer and Kaitlin Dewey tie for All-Around victory Complete Individual Results January 18, 2009
 Christina Baggetta finishes her floor routine against Springfield and Ursinus(credit: Michael Pratt, MLPhoto) Junior Lauren Gildemeyer (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) and freshman Kaitlin Dewey (Saratoga, NY/Saratoga Springs) each scored a 37.650 to tie for the top position in the all-around competition Sunday as The College at Brockport Gymnastics team hosted Springfield College and Ursinus College in its home opener at the Tuttle North facility in Brockport.
Gildemeyer tied for first place in the vault with a 9.525 as Springfield’s Ericca Castagna also scored a 9.525 on her vault. Dewey won the balance beam event with a 9.500 score. Dewey was second on the uneven bars and Gildemeyer was second in the floor exercise.
Brockport (3-0), ranked No. 1 in the nation according to the latest national Troester rankings, scored 184.875 in the meet while Ursinus College posted a 181.150 and Springfield College earned a 179.150.
The Golden Eagles posted three of the top four scores in three different events as Dewey, Gildemeyer and Christina Baggetta (Latham, NY/Shaker) were in the top four in the bars; Dewey, Gildemeyer and Stacy Johnson (Mechanicsville, MD/St. Mary’s) were among the top performers on the balance beam; and Dewey, Gildemeyer and Stephanie Baker (Akron, NY/Akron) scored in the top four in the floor exercise.
In the all-around, both Dewey and Gildemeyer scored over 9.0 in all four events. Dewey posted scores of 9.425 on the floor, 9.5 on the beam, 9.375 on the bars and 9.350 in the vault. Gildemeyer posted a 9.525 in the vault, a 9.2 on the bars, a 9.375 on the beam and a 9.55 on the floor.
Brittany Burr (Rochester, NY/Greece Olympia) finished fifth in the vault with a 9.450 while Baggetta posted a 9.2 on the bars, Johnson posted a 9.425 on the beam and Baker received a 9.425 in the floor exercise.
