Sophomore Lauren Gildemeyer (Baldwinsville, NY/CW Baker) has earned a chance to compete at the NCAA Division I level at the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Championship competition April 12-13 at Penn State University at University Park, Pennsylvania.

Gildemeyer was selected as a result of her strong performance at the National Collegiate Gymnastics Association (NGCA) Championships this past weekend at SUNY Cortland where she won the National Floor Exercise title as she tied her career-best score in the event with a 9.850. Gildemeyer also won All-American honors in the vault and all-around competition at the Division III championships.

The sophomore was selected as one of the individual alternates as each of the top six teams in the Northeast Region (University of Georgia, Auburn University, Denver University, Penn State, Brigham Young University and Iowa State University) each advanced to the regional competition as a team along with the top qualifier in each individual event and the top five all-around gymnasts. Gildemeyer will be the first alternate in the floor exercise.

Individuals are selected for the Division I championships based on their top four scores from the season in the particular event using the Troester Ranking system. Gildemeyer was ranked No. 13 in the Northeast Region in the most recent rankings released March 31 with a 9.542 average floor exercise score and a high of 9.850. She was also ranked No. 17 in the all-around.

She is one of only two Division III athletes invited to the regional competition joining University of Wisconsin-Whitewater’s Justine Weyer, who was selected as the first alternate in the all-around competition in the North Central Regional. Weyer finished tied for fifth in the all-around at the NCGA Championships but won the event at the NCGA West Regional and is the top ranked all-around competitor from the NCGA West Region.

There are six regional competitions with the top two teams and the top two all-around competitors along with the top individual from each event (that is not part of the top two teams and not one of the top two all-arounders) advancing to the NCAA Division I National Championships, April 24-26 at the University of Georgia.
