Stephen Cook, D.J. Hensley Pompeo, Rebecca Tucker & Ron White Join 122 Others in Hall of Fame


BROCKPORT, NY - Four distinguished members of the SUNY Brockport Athletics family will be inducted into the Golden Eagle Athletic Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 27.

The ceremony will take place at the New York Room in Cooper Hall on the SUNY Brockport campus. The evening begins at 6:30 p.m. with a reception followed by a buffet dinner and the induction ceremonies. Tickets are priced at $30 and can be reserved by calling (585) 395-5328.

The Class of 2003 is: Stephen M. Cook '92, D.J. Hensley Pompeo '93, Rebecca G. Tucker '98 and Ronald K. White '66.

This year's inductees will bring the total Hall of Fame class membership to 126, since the first class was inducted in 1985. The newest members will be introduced at halftime of the September 27 SUNY Brockport football game vs. Frostburg State, which begins at 1:30 p.m. The game also features Homecoming and Family Weekend.

SUNY College at Brockport '92 - Major: Criminal Justice, Minor: Military History
Army ROTC Commission

Four-year varsity football player with the Golden Eagles; two-year captain (junior and senior years); team MVP once (1990) and defensive player of the year twice (1989 and 1991); All-American as a junior and senior; ECAC Upstate NY All-Star as a sophomore, junior, and senior; numerous ECAC weekly awards; still holds career record for tackles (399) and tied for record for tackles in a year (150); led team in tackles for final three years; holds three other records for unassisted tackles in a season (78), assisted tackles in a career (211), and forced fumbles in a season (5). Varsity Club president in 1991; participated in ''Brockport Athletes for a Winning Attitude'' program with Brockport Central School District; volunteer for NYS Games for the Physically Challenged; justice on the BSG Disciplinary Board. Upon graduation, served as a U.S. Army Officer (1st Lieutenant) in the Medical Service Corp; U.S. Paratrooper; National Defense Ribbon; two meritorious Service medals and two Army Achievement medals; earned coveted Expert Field Medical Badge; employed as Sales & Marketing Manager at Donovan Enterprises (Stuart, FL) before moving to Randall Manufacturing in 2001.

SUNY College at Brockport '93 - Major: Physical Education

Two-year standout on the women's basketball team after transferring from Suffolk County Community College; led Brockport in rebounding both seasons and in scoring once; All-SUNYAC selection both years; still holds school records for rebounds in a game (26), career rebounding average (10.0), and season rebounding average (11.2); other top 10 rankings include: 3rd in rebounds in a season (279), tied for 4th in free throws made (FTM) in a game (12), 5th in FTM in a season (113), 5th (78) and 6th (76) in steals in a season, 6th in career steals (154), 6th in career field goal percentage (.463), 6th in season FG percentage (.527), 8th in career scoring average (13.6), 8th in career FT percentage (.702), 9th in season points (421), 9th in season scoring average (16.8), and 9th in career rebounds (468); ranked in top 10 in SUNYAC in scoring, rebounds, and steals as a senior; ECAC Player of the Week four times; SUNYAC All-Academic team. Taught physical education in various school districts on Long Island and in Charlotte, NC, from 1993 to 2000; also has coached basketball and volleyball. Currently taking time off from teaching to raise a family.

REBECCA G. TUCKER

SUNY College at Brockport '98 - Major: Exercise Physiology

One of the few four-sport athletes at Brockport; standout four-year letterwinner in lacrosse (1995-98) and also was a member of the tennis (1995), field hockey (1996 and 1997), and golf (1998) teams; named GTE/CoSIDA At-Large Academic All-American of the Year in 1998 (first student-athlete from Brockport or any SUNYAC school to ever receive honor); also honored as the Dr. Dolores Bogard SUNYAC Women's Scholar-Athlete of the Year (1998); numerous Brockport and SUNYAC academic honors and awards; in lacrosse, was a two-year captain; All-SUNYAC and All-State as a senior; led nation in assists per game (3.14 in 1998); set school records for points in a season (66) and career (170) and assists in a game (5), season (44), and career (95); 7th in career goals (75); the 1998 team set records for consecutive wins (8) and wins in a season (10). Graduated from Brockport with a 3.97 overall grade point average; had just one semester without a perfect 4.0 GPA; numerous charitable efforts, including a two-week stint in Guatemala helping lay cement floors in huts and feeding the underprivileged in 1997; had a 4.0 in her master's program at Temple. Currently a research technician in exercise physiology at UB and an exercise physiologist at Kaleida Health System in Buffalo.

RONALD K. WHITE

SUNY College at Brockport '66 - Major: Health and Physical Education

Four-year letterwinner in track and field and three-year letterwinner in cross country at Brockport; in track, set the school record in the mile (4:17) and the 880-yard run (1:55.0); All-SUNYAC each year; All-NYS each year; won the University at Buffalo invitational in the 880 and mile as a senior; NCAA College Division qualifier in the mile as a senior; finished third in the state meet in the 880 in 1965 and the mile in 1966; in cross country, finished fourth in the state meet as both a freshman and senior; All-SUNYAC; set the school's course record. Coached men's and women's cross country and track and field at the University at Albany over a career that spanned 1974 to 1997; led 1984 women's cross country to 8th-place at NCAAs; four women attained 16 All-American citations in track and field; hosted numerous conference, state, regional, and national events; seven men's All-Americans in track; also coached men's swimming and diving; coached at Vestal and Letchworth High Schools before Albany. Has run a total of seven marathons, including New York City three times and Boston once; employed as the Aquatics Director at the Capital District YMCA and as an adjunct lecturer at the College of St. Rose after retirement from Albany.
