GOLDEN EAGLES ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME INDUCTIONS OCTOBER 11
Seven new members to join Hall of Fame
BROCKPORT, NY - Seven distinguished members of The College at Brockport Athletics family will be inducted into the Golden Eagle Athletic Hall of Fame Saturday, October 11.
The ceremony will take place in the New York Room in Cooper Hall on the Brockport campus. The evening begins at 7:00 p.m. with a buffet dinner and the induction ceremonies. Tickets are priced at $35 and can be reserved by calling (585) 395-5328.
The Class of 2008 is:
Julie Winks Barker '96, Jean Raschiatore Berry '69, '72, Tom Massey '99, Mark Palmer '86, Karen Shay Rose '00, Jim Vlogianitis '94 and John Vlogianitis '95.
This year's inductees will bring the total Hall of Fame class membership to 151, since the first class was inducted in 1985. The newest members will be introduced at halftime of the October 11 Brockport football game vs. The College of New Jersey, which begins at 1 p.m.

Genesee Community College
Two-year standout for the College’s volleyball team (1993 and 1994) and one of the best players in the program’s history; led the Golden Eagles to SUNYAC titles and NCAA appearances in both years; named an All-American after each season (second-team AVCA selection each year); also was named All-SUNYAC and All-Region both years; was a finalist for the local College Sportswoman of the Year Award as a senior; led the team in kills in 1993 and 1994 (more than 500 each season, the only player in school history to reach that level twice) and in aces in 1994, and still holds the school record for block assists and total blocks in a season; for her career, sits seventh in career kills (everyone above her played at least three seasons) and is ranked in the top five in several other career, season and match records.
Volunteered for the New York State (now Empire State) Games for the Physically Challenged as a student; before Brockport, was a standout volleyball player at Genesee Community College.
After Brockport, continued playing volleyball at a high level and has led her Empire State Games teams to medals on five occasions, including Gold medals in 1994 and 2006 and a bronze this past summer; was a fitness instructor and worked in a YMCA before becoming a teaching assistant in the Central Square School District.

Standout athlete in swimming and diving and in numerous athletic activities as an undergraduate student at the College in the late 1960s; as a freshman, won the state title in one-meter diving at the 3rd annual New York State Meet (team finished 2nd); as a sophomore, led team to third undefeated dual meet season and first place at the State Meet; also played field hockey; as a junior, swimming team finished 3rd at the State Meet; played with newly formed soccer club; graduated in January of senior year; also participated on the track and field teams as a sprinter and long jumper during her athletic career.
As a student, was treasurer of the Dolphins Swim Club, active member of the Women’s Recreation Association and was regional rep for the Atlantic Region Federation of College Women; was the class of '69 recipient of the Tuttle Award (Outstanding Female Health and Physical Education Major).
After Brockport, taught for 31 years at Brockport High School, helping create a selective physical education program that touched the needs and interests of all students and emphasized life-long fitness; coached numerous sports teams, all at high levels of success, including two Section Five team championships and three individual diving champions; recognized with major coaching awards from local and state-wide organizations; posted a soccer coaching record of 175-56-30 and never had a losing soccer season; has been a supervisor of student teachers for P.E. and Sport since 2000.

A standout performer on the football field and in the classroom as an undergraduate at Brockport; only player in school history named a National Scholar-Athlete by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame (following his senior season); earned an $18,000 post-graduate scholarship with the award (one of only two NCAA Division III players to receive it among 17 players across the country at all levels); was a two-time GTE College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American (as a junior and senior) with a grade point average above 3.8; as a junior, earned first-team All-American honors after finishing third in the nation with nine interceptions as the team’s free safety; also was named All-ECAC and All-East as both a junior and senior; earned the Burger King National Scholar Athlete of the Week award ($10,000 scholarship to the College’s general fund) as well.
After playing, was honored as the College’s only SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence recipient in 1999, and was the SUNYAC Sam Molnar Men’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipient in 1998.
After Brockport, earned his master’s degree and is working as a physical therapist with Orthopedic Associates of Northern Ohio.

Standout on the College’s track and field teams in the mid-’80s as a dominant force in the throwing events; set school records in both the hammer (outdoor) and 35-pound weight throw (indoor) as a Golden Eagle; was an All-American in both events, finishing second in the weight throw at the NCAA Indoor Championships and fifth in the hammer at the NCAA Outdoor Championships as a senior (1986); also threw the discus, javelin and shot put throughout his collegiate career.
Before Brockport, competed for the University of Pennsylvania and set an Ivy League freshman record in the 35-pound weight throw; transferred to Brockport from Penn.
After Brockport, has competed as a professional heavy events athlete for 26 years; was the top-ranked North American in the hammer in 1989 and 1990 and was third at the U.S. Nationals in 1998; has set several records across North America; won the U.S. National Masters Heavy Events Championships in 2000, 2001 and 2002 and the U.S. Masters Pro-Am Heavy Events Championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007; was second in the 2005 and 2006 World Masters Championships; youth sports coach (football, wrestling, track and field) and a track and field official.

Four-year standout on the track and field teams at the College; over her career, won 15 SUNYAC and New York State titles in the shot put, weight throw, discus and javelin; never lost, indoor or outdoor, in the shot put at the SUNYAC Championships (eight titles); had a total of 42 All-Conference performances (top six finish at the SUNYAC, State and ECAC Championships) in her specialties (including the hammer); qualified for the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships her senior year (1999); set the school record in the weight throw; was the New York State Field Athlete of the Meet at the 1999 indoor championships; team MVP as a sophomore, junior and senior and captain her last three years as well.
After Brockport, competed in the Scottish Highland Games for two years, going undefeated in a variety of throwing events.
Has worked in a variety of roles at the Brockport Child Development Center on campus since graduating from Brockport in 2000; also has assisted the cross country and track and field programs as a coach.

Four-year member of the basketball team at the College; twin brother of fellow 2008 inductee John Vlogianitis; helped lead the resurgence in the basketball program at Brockport as the Golden Eagles won the 1994 SUNYAC Championship and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament; two-time All-SUNYAC selection and an honorable mention All-American as a senior (1993-94); heart and soul of the program in the early ’90s; exceptional rebounder (still second on the all-time list); had 24 rebounds in one game (highest total since the early ’70s); one of just 11 players in the program’s storied history to top 1,200 career points (ranked 11th with 1,201); also a very good long distance shooter (fifth in career three-point field goals with 146); also played one season of baseball for the Golden Eagles.
Upon graduating from Brockport, played a year of professional basketball in Greece; has hosted a basketball camp with his brother and friend and NBA star Wally Sczcerbiak.
Works for Bank of America as a Principal for Global Structured Product Sales; was previously employed by Citigroup and Smith Barney.

Four-year member of the basketball team at the College; twin brother of fellow 2008 inductee Jim Vlogianitis; helped lead the resurgence in the basketball program at Brockport as the Golden Eagles won the 1994 SUNYAC Championship (John was tournament Most Outstanding Player) and earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament; three-time All-SUNYAC selection and an honorable mention All-American twice (1993-94 and 1994-95); versatile all-around player who could score inside and out and distribute the ball; led team in scoring twice and is eighth all-time in scoring with 1,313 points; still ranks fourth all-time in career assists and fifth in career free throws made; holds season record for free throw attempts; also played one season of baseball for the Golden Eagles.
Upon graduating from Brockport, played two years of professional basketball in Greece, a year in the United States Basketball League for the Long Island Surf, and a year with the New York Nationals (toured with the Harlem Globetrotters); has hosted a basketball camp with his brother and friend and NBA star Wally Sczcerbiak.
Works for Wells Fargo Home Mortgage out of Long Island; one of top reps in the country.
