SELECTION PROCESS:
All current nominations are to be examined by all present members of the selection committee. A quorum consists of seven members.
Voting System for Golden Eagle Athletic Hall of Fame
Step 1. Prior to the initial meeting, at which time no new nominations will be accepted, the committee will get a specified time frame to review all of the folders. At least one week prior to this meeting, all committee members will receive a list of all eligible candidates. Any new information that is available should be brought to this meeting. When reviewing the nominations, each committee member will compile a list of the TOP 10 MALE and TOP 10 FEMALE CANDIDATES — based on the previously outlined requirements — and submit the list to the Intercollegiate Athletics secretary before the meeting.
Step 2. At this meeting, the chair will distribute a list of all nominees who received at least one "top 10" vote, but no official vote count will be compiled at this time. This step is to keep/eliminate nominees for that year, not rank them.
Step 3. For those nominees not on anyone’s top 10, the committee will determine which are unqualified, and thus do not belong in the pool for future consideration.
Step 4. The next step is a vote on all remaining candidates. AT THIS POINT IN THE PROCESS, COMMITTEE MEMBERS MAY ONLY VOTE FOR CANDIDATES ON THEIR OWN TOP 10 LIST. If a candidate gets at least half of the committee members’ support, then he/she will stay in the pool. If less than 50% of the committee members show support, he/she remains in the pool for future years but is no longer under consideration for the current year. Fifty percent will be determined as follows:
- 14 members present, 7 votes needed
- 13 members present, 7 votes needed
- 12 members present, 6 votes needed
- 11 members present, 6 votes needed
- 10 members present, 5 votes needed
- 9 members present, 5 votes needed
- 8 members present, 4 votes needed
- 7 members present, 4 votes needed
- 6 members present, 3 votes needed
- At least 6 members must be present for the selection process.
Step 5. It is hoped that this procedure will cut the pool down to a MAXIMUM of 10 male and 10 female candidates. If more than 10 remain in each category, it will be necessary to go back to those "on the bubble" and cut down to 10.
Step 6. When a maximum of 10 candidates has been reached in each pool, all committee members will then rank the top 10 candidates (one’s own top 10 list may or may not be used at this time) from this pool with the number one candidate receiving 10 points, number two getting nine, etc., down to one point for the 10th person on the list. If less than 10 people are in the pool at this time, the point values will be adjusted accordingly (if four people, four points for the top person, three for second, etc.).
Step 7. All candidates who receive 75% OF THE VOTE will be automatically inducted into the GOLDEN EAGLE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME. If less than two people are automatically selected, the cutoff will be lowered to include the next highest candidate(s) — TO A MAXIMUM OF THREE — provided those additional candidates have received at least 66.7% (two-thirds) of the vote. Thus, in some years, it’s possible to have four or five candidates automatically selected, or have no one automatically selected. If no one receives above 66.7% of the vote, the committee will determine if there are any qualified candidates in that year’s pool.
