Brockport (9-5-3) extended its school-record unbeaten streak to eight games (6-0-2) with the win and returns to State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) play over the weekend as the Golden Eagles host SUNY Morrisville Saturday night the in Tuttle North Ice Arena.
The win was also head coach Brian Dickinson’s 100th career victory, and the nine victories on the season is tied for the second-most wins in a season under Dickinson, who is in his 12th year at the helm.
Western New England (1-13-1) scored in the first period to take a 1-0 lead and Brockport tied the score in the second on a goal by Justin Noble (Georgetown, ONT) who has scored at least one point in six of the last seven games after being held scoreless in each of the first 10 games of the year.
In overtime, Western New England had the first scoring chance as junior Todd Sheridan (Edison, NJ) made a sliding save on a tough shot and senior defenseman Mike Gershon (Sparta, NJ) cleared the puck away from the net within the first minute of the overtime period.
A short time later, senior Dave McNab (Hamilton, ONT) and a Western New England player were sent to the penalty box for coincidental penalties. Four seconds later Silveira picked up a loose puck in front of the net after a shot from freshman Tyler Davis (Queensbury, NY) and spun around, using his backhand to beat the Western New England goalie for the game-winning goal.
