Shannon O'Keeffe wins National Championship in Triple Jump
Junior Shannon O'Keeffe (Boston, NY/Springville Griffith) capped a successful indoor track & field season by becoming a National Champion in the triple jump at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. Senior Josh Dupuis (Tupper Lake, NY/Tupper Lake) finished third in the shot put to collect his fourth career All-America award.
O'Keeffe was in second place after the first round of three jumps but used a leap of 11.70 meters (38 feet, 4 ¾ inches) on her fifth attempt of the championships to move into first place overall. In the final round of jumps, none of the remaining field was able to come within a foot of O'Keeffe’s winning distance.
