Indoor Track & Field Records Fall at Boston and Cornell
Melissa Scorse and Steve Reiss set new school standards
February 14, 2009
Sophomore Melissa Scorse (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) and senior Steve Reiss (Spencerport, NY/Spencerport) helped The College at Brockport Track & Field set four new school records Saturday as the teams competed at the Valentine Invitational at Boston University as well as the Kane Invitational at Cornell University.

Scorse broke her own school record in the 55-meter dash with a blazing 7.25 seconds time in the preliminary round and then finished 10th in the finals with a 7.33 time. The 7.25 time is the eighth fastest in Division III this season and is an NCAA Championships provisional qualifying time. The Distance Medley Relay that included Melissa Wassink (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili), Amanda Elias (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley), Randi DeBoy (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca) and Brittany Streeter (Oneida, NY/Oneida) set the school record with a time of 12:09.06 and also qualified for the ECAC Championships.

Reiss also had his hand in a pair of school records with a 49.82 in the 400-meter race and helped the 4x400 meter relay that consisted of Reiss, Eric Hine (Elmira, NY/Elmira Southside), Rusty Landon (Ithaca, NY/Lansing) and Jeff Suhr (Farmington, NY/Victor) set a new school record as well at the Boston event.

At Cornell, sophomore Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) qualified for the NCAA Championships with a 17.88-meter toss in the Weight Throw to win the event. The 17.88 throw is currently the second best in the country at the Division III level this season.

Senior Shannon O’Keeffe (Boston, NY/Springville-Griffith) won the triple jump with an NCAA Championships provisional distance of 11.49 meters which ranks 8th in the country to this point in the season. She also took third in the long jump with an ECAC Championships qualifying distance of 5.28 meters.

Other ECAC qualifiers included Brittany Falcon (Victor, NY/Victor) in the triple jump with a 10.68 leap while Brandon Lindsay (Macedon, NY/Wayne) and Cevon Carver (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) each qualified in the pentathlon. Lindsay finished with 3,193 points to take fourth at Cornell and Carver was sixth with 3,130 points.

DeBoy was a triple qualifier for the ECAC Championships with individual races in the 200 and 400 meter dashes as well as the Distance Medley Relay. Elias was also a qualifier in the 800-meter race while Caitlin McAneney (Hornell, NY/Hornell) qualified in the 5,000 meters.
