Sophomore Ray Lund (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) earned All-America honors with his third-place finish in the weight throw Friday afternoon at the NCAA Division III National Championships at Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Indiana.

Lund had a career-best toss of 17.97 meters (58’11½”) in his first throw of the competition and finished first in the first flight of competitors. His throw was topped by two throwers in the second flight, which dropped Lund to third place overall.

Sophomore Melissa Scorse (Pittsford, NY/Pittsford-Mendon) and junior Cevon Carver (Bronx, NY/Dewitt Clinton) also competed on the first day, with Scorse taking 11th in the 55-meter dash and Carver finishing 14th in the long jump competition. Scorse ran a 7.29-second time in her heat of the 55-meter dash while Carver cleared 6.51 meters (21’4¼”) with his best effort in the long jump.

Competition at the NCAA Championships continues Saturday with junior Shannon O’Keeffe (Boston, NY/Springville-Griffith) taking part in the triple jump. She won the NCAA title in the event last year.
