Track & Field Places 5th and 6th at State Championships
Shannon O’Keeffe win the State Championship in the triple jump Meet Results March 1, 2008
 Dom Gonzalez takes second in the weight throw at the State Championship meet Junior Shannon O’Keeffe (Boston, NY/Springville Griffith) had a busy day at the New York State Cross Country and Track Conference (NYSCTC) Indoor Track and Field Championships with top-five finishes in four different events including a State Championship in the triple jump. She led the Golden Eagles to a fifth-place team finish while the men took sixth place at the championships held Friday and Saturday at St. Lawrence University in Canton.
O’Keeffe won the triple jump with a leap of 37 feet, 1 ¾ inches and also finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.87 seconds. Her other two top finishes were as a member of two different relays. She led off the 4x200 relay that finished second and she was the third leg of the 4x400 relay that placed fourth for the Golden Eagles. The 4x200 relay of O’Keeffe, Randi DeBoy (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca), Amanda Elias (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley) and Jenny Ruhlman (Darien Center, NY/Alexander) finished in second place with a time of 1:47.18 and the 4x400 relay of DeBoy, Christine Reamer (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca) O’Keeffe and Elias was the fourth team to cross the finish line with a time of 4:05.22.
DeBoy also took second in the 400-meter race with a 1:00.16 time and Elias was second in the 800-meters with a time of 2:16.91. Kelsey Conn (Batavia, NY/Elma) was a second-place finisher in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:54.25 and Ashley Mrozek (Depew, NY/Lancaster) was second in the pentathlon with a score of 2,653 points.
On the men’s side, the top finishers were Joe Hitchcock (Averill Park, NY/Averill Park) with a second-place finish in the high jump (6’ 3 ½”), Josh Dupuis (Tupper Lake, NY/Tupper Lake) with a second in the shot put (52’ 10”), and Dom Gonzalez (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) who finished second in the weight throw (55’ 2”).
James Kennedy (Berlin, NY/John Jay) was fourth in the pentathlon (3,107 points) and Andrew Smith (West Sayville, NY/Sayville) was fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 43’ 10 ¾”.
