Track & Field Competes at ECAC’s
Shannon O’Keeffe wins Triple-Jump and sets a new school record March 8, 2008
Chris Brhel places second in the pole vault at the ECAC Championships Junior Shannon O’Keeffe (Boston, NY/Springville Griffith) won the triple jump on the first day to lead The College at Brockport Indoor Track & Field teams at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Championship meet Friday and Saturday at Harvard University in Cambridge, MA. O’Keeffe won the triple jump with an NCAA Championships automatic-qualifying distance of 11.79 meters (38'8-1/4"). The distance assures her a spot in the National Championship meet later this month and is also a Brockport school record.
O’Keeffe also finished eighth in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.75 seconds.
The Brockport women finished in seventh place in the team standings with a total of 37 points after the conclusion of the two-day event. Moravian took first with 56 points and MIT was second with 42.50 points.
Kelsey Conn (Batavia, NY/Elba) set a new school record in the 5,000-meter race with a fifth-place time of 17:33.04 on Friday. The old record was set by Christy Eklund in 2004. On Saturday, she set a new school mark in the 3,000-meter race by placing first with a time of 10:15.97. Also on Saturday, Amanda Elias (Belmont, NY/Genesee Valley) scored points with a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter run with a time of 58.36 seconds, just missing out on a provisional qualifying time for the NCAA Championships by six-hundredths of a second.
The one-mile relay team of Randi DeBoy (Salamanca, NY/Salamanca), Christine Reamer (Ithaca, NY/Ithaca), O’Keeffe, and Elias set a new school record with a time of 4:02.56 en route to a seventh-place finish.
Also scoring points on Friday for the Golden Eagles was the 4x220-yard relay team of Melissa Scorse (Pittsfird, NY/Pittsford-Mendon), DeBoy, Elias and Jenny Ruhlman (Darien Center, NY/Alexander), which finished in third place with a time of 1:46.14. Despite the longer distance, their time was good enough to shave nearly three full seconds off the 4x200 relay school record.
For the men, Brockport scored 18 points and the squad finished in 16th place. St. Lawrence University won the men’s competition with 69 points, followed by Moravian (59) and Nazareth (38).
On Saturday, junior Dom Gonzalez (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) took seventh while scoring points in the weight throw with a toss of 16.32 meters.
On Friday for the men, second-place finishes by Josh Dupuis (Tupper Lake, NY/Tupper Lake) in the shot put and Chris Brhel (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) in the pole vault secured more points for Brockport.
