Senior Shawn Harris (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) scored 17 of his team-leading 22 points in the first half to help The College at Brockport Men’s Basketball team build a 31-22 lead at the break, but SUNY Oneonta scored 49 second-half points to come from behind for a 71-65 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) victory over Brockport Friday night at Tuttle North Gymnasium in Brockport.

Brockport (5-11 overall, 1-6 SUNYAC) scored the final seven points of the first half to open up a close game and entered the halftime intermission with a 31-22 lead.

In the second half, Brockport increased the lead to 12 points on a three-pointer by Mychal Wilkes (Newark, NY/Newark), but Oneonta (13-6, 8-2) chipped away at the lead over the next four minutes and trailed by just a single point at 41-40 with 14:14 left in the half.

The Golden Eagles held onto the slim lead until Oneonta tied the score at 65-65 with 2:25 remaining, at which point the Red Dragons scored the final six points of the game for the road win.

Harris led the Golden Eagles with his 22 points off the bench while Wilkes added 12 points, four assists and three steals. Jermaine Johnson (Queens Bridge, NY/Long Island City) added five points, a team leading seven rebounds and also blocked three shots for Brockport.

The Golden Eagles made less than 40 percent of their shots from the field (25-for-63) while Oneonta connected on over 60% (28-46). The Golden Eagles held a 39-2 advantage in bench scoring.
