Men’s Basketball Upsets Fredonia at Home

Seniors Mychal Wilkes (Newark, NY/Newark) and Joe Clarke (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) scored 16 points each to lead The College at Brockport Men’s Basketball team to a convincing 87-67 victory over SUNY Fredonia Friday night in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game at the Tuttle North Gymnasium in Brockport.

Brockport (7-12 overall, 3-7 SUNYAC) held a three-point lead at halftime at 34-31 but scored 53 second-half points to easily defeat Fredonia (13-7, 7-6).

Wilkes scored 11 of his 16 in the second half to spark the Golden Eagles. With Brockport leading 54-47 with 12 minutes to play, Brockport scored on -a pair of layups by Shawn Harris (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) and Eamon Kays (Mexico, NY/Mexico), which were followed by a three-pointer by Wilkes to give the Golden Eagles a 12-point lead at 61-49 with 10:41 remaining.

Brockport still had an 11-point advantage a minute later before an 11-2 run opened up a 20-point Golden Eagle lead at 75-55 and Brockport coasted the rest of the way.

Wilkes added a team-leading four steals to his 16 points while Clarke was tied for the team lead with five rebounds. Wilkes and Bobby Brooks (Oneida, NY/Oneida) also grabbed five rebounds each. Jermaine Johnson (Queens Bridge, NY/Long Island City) netted 14 points, Kays chipped in nine, and Harris, Brooks and freshman Gerald Williams (Rochester, NY/Charlotte) each scored eight points for Brockport. Ian Mack (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had nine assists for the Golden Eagles.
