Senior Mychal Wilkes (Newark, NY/Newark) scored 26 points on 6-of-12 shooting from beyond the three-point arc to lead The College at Brockport Men’s Basketball team to an 84-76 victory over SUNY Morrisville Tuesday in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game at Morrisville.

Brockport (9-14 overall, 4-9 SUNYAC) remained in eighth place in the conference standings with two games remaining in the regular season. The top eight teams advance to the SUNYAC Tournament that begins Tuesday, February 24.

Morrisville (3-20, 0-15) held a slim 41-40 lead at the halftime intermission and the game was tied at 60-60 with 12:21 remaining before the Golden Eagles went on a 13-3 run to open up the close game. Included in the run was a pair of Wilkes jumpers, the second of which came from three-point range to increase the Brockport lead to 10 points at 73-63 with 7:40 left.

The Mustangs cut the lead to four points three times in the closing minutes but a pair of lay ups by Eamon Kays (Mexico, NY/Mexico) and a jumper by Jermaine Johnson (Queens Bridge, NY/Long Island City) kept the Brockport advantage to at least two possessions. Free throws by Kays and senior Ian Mack (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) in the final minute secured the victory.

Wilkes led the way with his 26 points as he connected on 10-of-17 shots from the field and had 16 points in the opening half. Kays was 8-for-10 from the field and finished with 17 points off the bench while Mack ended up with 11 points and six assists. Joe Clarke (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) had eight points and led the team with six rebounds.
