The College at Brockport Men's Basketball team forced two overtime periods before falling 75-70 to Carnegie Mellon University Friday night in the first round of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio.

Brockport (14-15) took a 56-55 lead with 10 seconds left in regulation on a pair of free throws by senior Joe Clarke (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) but Carnegie Mellon (20-6) tied the score with a free throw in the closing seconds of the second half to force the first overtime.

In overtime, Josh Zenkel (Webster, NY/Webster Thomas) drained a clutch three-pointer from deep in the corner to tie the score at 63-63 with 39 seconds left to play. Carnegie Mellon had a good shot to win the game with two seconds remaining when the ball deflected high off the rim, then off the top of the backboard and down into the basket, but the referees determined that the ball touched the deadball area of the backboard and nullified the basket.

In the second overtime, Carnegie Mellon scored the first eight points for its largest lead of the overtime periods but Brockport battled back with a Shawn Harris (Rochester, NY/Gates-Chili) layup and a Jermaine Johnson (Queens Bridge, NY/Long Island City) three-pointer. With Brockport down by three points, both Ian Mack (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) and Eamon Kays (Mexico, NY/Mexico) had shots blocked and Carnegie Mellon hit four consecutive free throws in the closing seconds to seal the victory.

Kays led Brockport with 15 points and eight rebounds and Mack chipped in 14 points while Mychal Wilkes (Newark, NY/Newark) added 12 points before fouling out near the end of regulation. Clarke finished with 10 for the Golden Eagles.
