The win was the first over the Bears since reinstating the program to the varsity level in 2001.

The Bears scored twice in the second stanza and led 4-2 at the halftime intermission and took a 5-2 lead three minutes into the second half. Brian Loeffler (Islip, NY/Islip) started the comeback with the first of his two goals 27 seconds later to propel the Golden Eagles on a six-goal rally. Loeffler and Gomez each scored twice in the run along with single goals from Mike Sanderson (Canton, NY/HC Williams) and Matt Andon-McLane (Syracuse, NY/Nottingham) to give Brockport an 8-5 lead.
