Senior Steve Abgarian (Merrick, NY/Bellmore-JFK) scored his seventh goal of the season late in the second half as The College at Brockport and RIT played to a 1-1 tie on the second day of competition at the Doug May Memorial Tournament at Nazareth College Sunday afternoon.

RIT (1-1-1) scored late in the first half despite Brockport (2-0-1) holding an 8-4 shots advantage in the period.

The Golden Eagles tied the game with less than seven minutes left in the second half when Doug DiSanti (Dix Hills, NY/St. John the Baptist) started an offensive rush up the field by passing forward to Mike Bremen (Merrick, NY/Bellmore-JFK). Bremen’s crossing pass was deflected but Abgarian picked up the loose ball and raced past two defenders near the top of the 18-yard box before sending a shot past the RIT goalie to tie the game at 1-1.

In overtime, both teams had scoring chances but Brockport’s Brad Lefort (Chittenango, NY/Chittenango) had the best scoring opportunity when his shot late in the second overtime rang off the crossbar.

Junior Joe Marino (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) was credited with six saves and has allowed just one goal in the first three games of the season for the Golden Eagles.
