Senior Steve Abgarian (Merrick, NY/Bellmore-JFK) scored one goal and assisted on another to lead The College at Brockport Men’s Soccer team to a 2-0 victory over SUNY Oneonta in a State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) game Saturday in Oneonta.

It has been a long time since Brockport (5-3-2 overall, 3-1 SUNYAC) has defeated the Red Dragons, mainly due to the fact that Oneonta has spent the last two decades at the Division I level. The last win for the Golden Eagles over Oneonta was a 4-2 win in Brockport in 1983.

The win also extended Brockport's shutout streak to three games and the Golden Eagle defense has not allowed a goal in 280 minutes of action.

After a scoreless first half, Abgarian opened the scoring with a rush down the right side of the field, sending a shot past the Oneonta goalie for a 1-0 lead. Just over 20 minutes later, Abgarian fed Christian Tychostup (Mayfield, NY/Mayfield) who fired a shot just under the crossbar to extend the Brockport lead to 2-0 with 17 minutes to play.

Junior goalie Joe Marino (Rochester, NY/McQuaid) finished with eight saves on 17 Oneonta shot attempts for his second straight shutout and fourth of the season.
