Volleyball Finishes 1-3 at NY Regional Challenge

Senior Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown) totaled 49 kills and hit .337 on the weekend as The College at Brockport women’s volleyball team went 1-3 at the New York State Regional Challenge at Ithaca.

Brockport (18-17) lost to RIT in the first match, 3-1, by scores of 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, and 25-21. Fitchette finished with 15 kills and nine digs, Kelly Nowak (Orchard Park, NY/Sacred Heart) added 14 kills and six aces and Amanda Yachetta (Falconer, NY/Falconer) dished out 37 assists.

Against St. Lawrence, Brockport lost in three games by scores of 25-18, 26-24, and 25-12. Fitchette and Nowak each finished with seven kills and Mary Cocking (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen) collected nine digs.

Fitchette and Nowak combined for 18 kills in a 3-0 loss to Nazareth (26-24, 25-23, 25-17). Yachetta finished with 19 assists and Cocking totaled nine digs.

The Golden Eagles finished the Regional Challenge with a 3-0 victory over SUNY Potsdam. Brockport won 25-18, 25-15, 25-21 as Fitchette registered 16 kills in the match. Nowak added nine kills and Heather Carroll (Windsor, NY/Windsor) and Kristi Schrantz (Depew, NY/Lancaster) each totaled six kills.

Brockport heads to the SUNYAC Tournament and will face SUNY Oneonta (17-18), the No. 3 seed from the East Division, at 2 pm on Thursday Nov. 5 at SUNY New Paltz. Brockport defeated Oneonta earlier this season on Sept. 12 at the Ithaca Invitational, 3-1. The Golden Eagles are 22-2 all-time against the Red Dragons.
