Volleyball Advances to SUNYAC Semfinals
Fitchette leads Golden Eagles with 15 kills

Senior Alyssa Fitchette (Watertown, NY/Watertown) led The College at Brockport women’s volleyball team with 15 kills and 13 digs in a 3-0 win over SUNY Oneonta in the SUNYAC Tournament quarterfinals in New Paltz.

With the win, Brockport (19-17) advances to the semifinals on Friday, November 6th, at 3 pm when they will face No. 1 SUNY New Paltz (30-5).

The Golden Eagles defeated Oneonta by scores of 25-17, 27-25, 25-23. Sophomore Kelly Nowak (Orchard Park, NY/Sacred Heart) finished with 11 kills and three aces and Heather Carroll (Windsor, NY/Windsor) added six kills. Senior Amanda Yachetta (Falconer, NY/Falconer) handed out 36 assists and Mary Cocking (Bergen, NY/Byron-Bergen collected 12 digs.

In the first set, Brockport trailed 7-5 before three consecutive kills by Nowak gave the Golden Eagles the slight 8-7 advantage. Brockport went on to score six of the next eight points and never looked back.

Oneonta led 20-14 in the second game but Brockport battled back to with in two points at 22-20, forcing a Red Dragon timeout. The Golden Eagles tied the game at 22-22 on an ace by Nowak and an error on Oneonta. The game went back and forth for the final few points and was tied at 25-25 until Oneonta had an attack error and Fitchette put the game away with a kill.

In the final set the Golden Eagles led 23-18 before the Red Dragons battled to within one point at 23-22. Brockport took a 24-22 lead on a kill by Carroll but Oneonta fought for the next point to make it a one-point game again, forcing a Brockport timeout. Oneonta came out with the serve and gave the Golden Eagles the win on a service error.
