SUNY Brockport has been invited to join the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) for football starting in the Fall of 2008. The NJAC Athletic Directors approved the move last week and the University Presidents of the member schools approved the addition of SUNY Brockport on Friday. The conference also announced the addition of Morrisville State College.

Brockport and Morrisville becomes the 9th and 10th football members of the conference joining Rowan University, Montclair State, Kean State, The College of New Jersey, William Paterson College, Western Connecticut State University, SUNY Cortland and Buffalo State as members of the conference.

"I am elated that the New Jersey Athletic Conference has accepted our application to join this respected national conference,” said SUNY Brockport President Dr. John R. Halstead. “Beginning with the 2008 season, we will be aligned with national caliber teams with similar public missions and storied football programs assuring us of a nine-game league season plus a traditional rivalry likely with a private college in Upstate New York. We will be joined by three other SUNY colleges that adhere to similar academic and athletic policies".

The winner of the conference receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Playoffs.

The Golden Eagles will remain a member of the Atlantic Central Football Conference (ACFC) for the 2007 season and play a full NJAC conference schedule starting with the 2008 season. Brockport joined the ACFC in 2004 and won a share of the conference championship in 2005. The ACFC is the only conference SUNY Brockport has ever been associated with in the 60 years of football at the college.

The Golden Eagles have compiled winning records in eight of the last 12 seasons under head coach Rocco Salomone. He led Brockport to the NCAA Playoffs four straight seasons starting in 2000 and the team was voted the ECAC Team of the Year in 2002 and was selected as the Lambert Cup Champions as the best team in the East.
